New Stickage

Stick Figure Drama #97 is now available. The shit, as they say, begins to hit the fan, as we march headlong to the 100th episode, and the death of one of the most beloved Stick Figure Drama characters.

Okay, that may not be fair. I have no idea which characters are the most beloved. There's probably only two or three people who even tell me that they read this thing. *BUT* amongst these two or three people, this character, who's going to die, is pretty popular, I've got to admit.

Sooo...yeah...

Stick Figure Drama #97. Read it. Laugh.

Hehe. I especially liked the title! I'm gonna miss that fabulous character!!

Believe it or not, the next four weeks of Stick Figure Drama are already done, leading up to the death, and the first post-death episode.

I can actually take Stick vacation.

Though, I guess, what I *should* be doing is practicing drawing, because I'll have to break out the pencil and paper again when these four weeks are up. I won't be able to lazily draw with a mouse in Photoshop. And I'm not 100% sure I can still remember how to draw these characters...

I can believe you finished them! Definitely keep practicing - maybe you could create some alternative cartoons leading up to #100 and publish them in your book - you know, like the "alternative endings" they put on DVDs now.

Oooooh, alternate endings. That's an interesting idea.

Speaking of endings, did I ever tell you that I've already plotted out the first strip of the final story arc of Stick Figure Drama (for that day, so many years from now, when the strip is finally going to be retired).

The first words in the strip are "What's eating you?" and that's all I'm saying at the moment :)

Wow! You know, you're always trying to get me to read between the lines! YOU were the one with the mind-reading capabilities! Do you have any idea of when this last story will play out? What if by then you've killed off all the characters we now know, and you have a whole new cast!! Then what? Huh? Ever thought of that? (that's so very ambitious of you, however!)

Hm. Well, assuming I kill off all the current characters, I guess I'd have to come up with a different final story arc for the strip. Which would be sort of disappointing, because I'm really quite fond of the strip idea I do currently have. So I guess I'd better make sure I keep at least the two characters required for that strip alive for awhile longer.

Besides, I don't intend to make it a habit to kill of characters. That's too easy a way to create drama, and a crutch used by desperate writers, of which I am certainly not among.

Of COURSE not! Well, I'd assume you'd keep your own character alive, and I guess the other characters can't be so self-sacrificial as our current dearly beloved friend, so your story arc may be safe after all.

Btw, weren't you gonna get me a copy of your first book? I wanna see it!

Yes, I was going to get you a copy of my first book. I think I even yanked one of my few remaining copies and set it aside, but I don't think I've seen you since then. I'll have to keep it in the car, I guess, in case I bump into you.

I sort of need to get to work on finishing off the second book too. And then paying for the printing on the first book. And then coming up with money to pre-pay the second book. Because I'm a broke-ass writer, and therefore also a total deadbeat.

but a deadbeat with a book! How many of us deadbeats can say we have published a book? I may have a college degree, but noone's ever seen my name on a written product except my professors!

Yeah, bylines are great. That and a buck fifty will get you a cup of coffee, as they say.

Still, I guess I shouldn't complain. You're right. How many people have a published book (even of the self-published, vanity-press variety).
